An undergraduate degree is a shortened version of an academic qualification earned by an individual who has successfully completed undergraduate courses in his or her academic years. In the United States, this is normally awarded at a college or university, usually through a program sponsored by the government. Unlike many other countries, the United States does not require its students to have any sort of professional experience before they can apply for their degree.
A Bachelor’s degree takes about two years and students usually have to start from the first year in order to be considered a full-time student. It differs from most professional degrees in that its main focus is on subjects that are related to the sciences.
The RN-BSN programs allows students to pursue various career goals, including but not limited to careers in the fields of business, law and medicine. In the United States itself, the Bachelor’s degree has been categorized into four main types: Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Medicine (BSM) and Doctor of Education (DVM). These are all based on different core requirements that students must fulfill before being awarded their degree.
Some of these requirements, such as coursework in human anatomy and physiology, are only required to earn a Bachelors degree and others, such as courses in psychology, must be met in order to earn a Masters degree in the same field. A student earns his or her Bachelor’s degree by matriculation and is then eligible for a PhD in the same field as the matriculated student.
The Bachelor of Science program is the commonest type of Bachelor’s degree. This program enables students to specialize in a specific field of study. In the United States itself, business majors often choose to major in either business management or accounting, while healthcare students may choose to major in either medical or nursing. Online programs are available to accommodate this, and students can earn their BS degrees even from traditional universities. A BS degree generally combines a major in science with courses in mathematics, computer science, physics and chemistry, in order to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in the natural sciences.
Students who earn their bachelor’s degrees in areas other than business, medicine, and healthcare choose to enter the Doctorate program, which is also known as a DVM. Unlike a BS degree program, a doctorate requires that students complete their degrees in science. Usually the doctorate is earned through an academic institution, although it can be obtained by attending classes online.
